Soak the sponge in water for 15 minutes for the first time so that the sponge softens up. Every week or two put the sponge in a bowl of water and microwave for a few minutes to clean the insides and remove any bacteria. Alternatively, you may pour hot water, add a drop of tea tree oil, and let it stand for 10 minutes.
